Obituary of Wallace F. Ditzel

Wallace Fred Ditzel, age 92, died on Monday, December 6, 2004 at Raritan HealthCare Center in Raritan. He was born in Westfield and had lived in Martinsville for most of his life. Mr. Ditzel served with the 5th Army 337th Regiment in Italy during World War II. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, three Battle Stars and a Bronze Star Medal. He was employed by G.A.F. in South Bound Brook for over 49 years. After retiring from G.A.F. in 1977 he worked for fifteen years with Industrial Park Security. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 2290 in Manville and a member of the American Legion, Post # 0327. He received the Distinguished Service Medal on April 15, 1996. Mr. Ditzel was a private pilot and a world traveler. He is predeceased by his wife, Bertha Oaks Ditzel in 2002 and his grandson Wayne Consalvo in 1980. Surviving are his son, Joseph A. Ditzel and his wife Chris of Pittstown; his daughters, Dorothy Rogers and her husband Fred of Bridgewater, Serina Mitchell of Homesdale, PA and Laura Betza and her husband Phillip of Hillsborough. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funerals services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
